Gunmen in war-torn South Sudan abducted nearly 100 children, some of whom were as young as 13, near the village of Malakal in mid-February. It was just one of many recent abductions in the country since conflict broke out between government troops and rebel factions in December 2013.
But while there's still work to be done, UNICEF reports that it's in the process of rescuing children from armed groups throughout the country — to date, it has successfully negotiated for the release of more than 600 child troops since January 2015.
