Many already use Twitter as a platform to broadcast their lives. Now, Meerkat is trying to take that concept to the next level.
Meerkat, an app that launched quietly on Friday, gained traction over the weekend, thanks in part to a push from the influential tech community Product Hunt, for its effortless approach to turning Twitter into a live streaming platform. Then Twitter appeared to crack down on it, at least briefly.
The application taps into Twitter's API so users can stream video from their smartphones to their followers in real time. Simply type out a name for the broadcast and tap "stream," and it will tweet from your account with a prompt to watch live. Those who click on the link will be able to watch from either the Meerkat desktop or iOS app as well as interact with the host and other viewers. Read more...
