FAROE ISLANDS — This Friday, the hottest place for total solar eclipse fans to be is on one of a few cold, small islands in the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.
Travelers hoping to catch a glimpse of the moon obscuring the sun have traveled from around the world to the Faroe Islands and Svalbard, the only land masses where the full astronomical event will be visible — if weather permits. Some adventurers will even be airborne for the eclipse so not even clouds can get in their way.
"We go see every eclipse that we possibly can," said Joe Malnar, who traveled from his home in Seattle to the Faroes with his wife Stephanie. "My first eclipse was Feb. 26, 1979." Read more...
